Teaching Meal Names

A few months back our 5 year old, who was 4 at the time, was getting our meal names all mixed up. He hadn’t quite mastered the concept that breakfast was in the morning, dinner was in the evening and so on. To him almost everything was breakfast. (maybe because that’s his favorite […]

Bowling: A Great Family Activity

If you are looking for a fun family activity that all ages can enjoy, then bowling it is! Years ago, bowling alleys weren’t conducive to families as they were loaded with smoke. With new non-smoking laws in most states, these facilities are now smoke-free and quite clean. We took our family last […]

A Venezuelan New Year

In my early twenties I had the opportunity to live in Venezuela for 18 months. While there I was able to take part in some of their fun traditions for the holidays. A fun New Year’s day activity is to eat a handful of 12 grapes in the 12 minutes leading up to […]

The Cardboard Box

This evening when my husband pulled out a box with a storage rack inside, the first thing our 8 year old said was, “Can we have that box?” We had put another one together a couple days ago, and the kids have been playing with that cardboard box almost non-stop since we handed it […]

Indoor Snowball Fight

Too cold to go outside? Bring the snowball fight indoors! Grab a couple bags of cotton balls and go to town. The kids will have a blast creating snowballs and throwing them at each other. Furniture and pillows make great hideouts. Clean up is pretty easy too.

Car Wash-Kid’s Style

On a sunny day, head out back with a few buckets of soapy water and some sponges. Let the kids have a car wash with their bikes and play toys. My kids have spent hours washing and re-washing everything in sight. They have a blast and everything gets a shiny new look.

Bingo Dabbers: Great Art Tool for Toddlers

Bingo dabbers can be found at almost any dollar store. They come in lots of different colors, and make a great art tool for any toddler.
I set the table up the same way I do for a painting project because they can still be a bit messy. ( An old plastic shower curtain makes […]

Journal Prompts in a Jar

Writing in a journal is a great way for your child to fill a boring Saturday afternoon. Free writing helps develop creativity as well as language skills. Sometimes children have a hard time getting started. This is where a jar full of journal prompts becomes a handy tool.
Type up several journal prompts. […]
