Vehicle Maintenence
Most of America today is driving a newer vehicle. However nice these new automated and totally electronic newer cars are, they do come with some setbacks. Many major repairs can be avoided by simply taking good care of your vehicle and watching the sensors that show up on your screen if a need arises. With all of the fun new things your car’s computer can tell you, we get a sense of comfort and have a tendency to put off things we shouldn’t.
This last year we put off a full check-up on one of our vehicles that we should have had at a certain mile mark. We were just lazy and didn’t have the time to take it in, and then we didn’t want to pay for it! It would have only cost a couple hundred bucks, and we should have done it. A few months later our brake lights kept staying on after you took your foot off the brake. So, we took it in to have it looked at and not only did we need new brakes, the front rotors were totally shot. It was a shock because you couldn’t tell when you were driving. So, instead of just replacing the breaks, we had to replace the front rotors as well, which was significantly more expensive. We had recently put new tires on the car as well, so that was a treat to pay for the extra repair.
I can’t stress enough to keep up with your regular oil changes, check-ups and simply being aware of any need your car may have. It will save you money in the short and long run, and it will give you a sense of safety. I was so relieved that we took care of the breaks when we did and avoided any disaster that could have occurred if they had gone out while I was driving or near a school. We took it in thinking there was air in the break line. We had no idea it was as serious as it was, and thank goodness we took it in.
