Loans That Change Lives
A few months ago, a close friend introduced me to www.kiva.org, a great organization that helps change real lives. Kiva lets you connect with and loan money to unique small businesses in the developing world. By choosing a business on Kiva.org, you can “sponsor a business” and help the world’s working poor make great strides towards economic independence. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates from the business you’ve sponsored. As loans are repaid, you get your loan money back.
The required minimum loan amount is $25, which is a reasonable amount for some of us. Plus, as it is a loan, you do get your money back- to keep, or re-loan to a new business. What I like most about this organization, is that you choose exactly who you are helping, which makes it much more personal. You are also updated with important information as the loan is used. I would highly recommend it.
