Keep it Simple:Holiday Decorating

Everyone is different when it comes to decorating for the holidays. I like to keep things simple. We decorate the tree and I set out a few pieces to a Christmas village that I have, but other than that not much more gets set out. The idea of knick-knacks everywhere just means I have to worry about where to set it up, and where to store it the other 11 months of the year.

So I found this article posted at Unclutterer to be right up my alley. It has some great ideas for being festive during the holidays without all the clutter. Here are a few highlights:

  • When it comes to the tree, wreath, and even the garland buy real stuff so you don’t have to store them during the year. When the holidays are over just dispose of them.
  • Poinsettias brighten up any room and they too can be toss after enjoying them.
  • Don’t feel like you need to fill every single inch of your house with holiday knick-knacks. Sometimes using the less is more theory works very well. Trying playing some holiday music for your guests to help them enjoy the holiday spirit.
  • Take time to make some home made treats with the kids. If you don’t have kids borrow some for the day. A gingerbread house makes a great centerpiece that doesn’t need to be stored.

The holidays can be a stressful time. Why not save yourself a little stress after the holidays by cutting down on the decorating?
