Raising A Family

and enjoying almost every minute of it… :-)

Traditions!

One of the best parts of the holiday season are all the fun family traditions. Traditions help set you apart from other families and help define you as your own. They are fun to look forward to as well. If you don’t have any of your own here’s a few tips to give you a start on developing some.

  • Pick a few from your childhood and then a few from your spouse’s. Be selective and just choose a couple. You want to leave room to develop some of your very own. It’s no fun to just do what you’ve always done.
  • This is a fantastic time to include your children and start your own little family’s traditions. Sit down with the kids and talk about what you would like to start doing every holiday season. They will love that you are including them and letting them choose some things. Have them take ownership of the activity and make them be in charge of it when the time comes!
  • Be creative. You don’t always have to have ham or turkey on the big day. We are starting a ritual this year of having my husband’s famous shrimp and chicken shishkabobs on the barbecue for our big meal!
  • Be flexible. If something you have planned totally bombs, it’s all right. It was worth the try!

This time of year is great for bonding as a family. Take advantage of it by starting some special family rituals that everyone will look forward to throughout the year.
