Parent / Teacher Conferences
We have a close friend that is a third grade teacher and recently the school district had parent/teacher conferences. Most know about this little ritual where parent and teacher meet together at a scheduled time to discuss their child’s progress at school. After attending our own son’s first conference a few weeks ago, I was appalled to find out from our friend that many parents don’t show up to these conferences. This is a wonderful time to meet and connect with the person that spends almost more waking hours a day with your child than you do. Take the time to make these conferences a priority. By understanding what your child needs, you will be able to help them at home. Also, knowing where they are excelling gives you opportunity to reward them for their efforts. Use this time to thank your child’s teacher for the work they put into your child’s future. They certainly don’t get the credit they deserve.
By showing up to these conferences and then coming home and discussing it with your child, you are showing them interest in their lives. The more you can do at home to complement what is being done at school, the more you are setting your child up for success in the short and long run. Education is everything. Make sure you are fully aware of your child’s progress by helping them achieve the most that they can while in school.
