Babies and All Their Gear
A post over at unclutterer had some good points relating to the gear our infants tend to collect. Some of it gets purchased with the greatest intentions, but doesn’t end up getting much use. I’ll be the first one to say that we were given a brand new swing for our daughter, (funny that the third child got the new swing) and she wasn’t a baby that enjoyed swings. It was probably used less then 10 times. We tried every position, and played every song it sang, but nothing worked. It sat in her room taking up space for several months until we passed it down to her cousin.
A lot of times an item such as a swing, bouncy seat, or bassinet can be expensive. Unless they’ve been used for several children, in most cases they do not get much wear. Like the article mentions, it’s a great idea to check out resources to purchase these items used. You may need to do a little research depending on the product because occasionally they may be recalled for safety purposes. Giving them a little scrub and some TLC can make them feel almost brand new. Most items such as swings and bouncy seats have covers that are very easy to remove and wash.
When your finished with them, pass those items along instead of leaving them to take up space and collect dust in the garage or basement. You may even recover a little money by selling them on Craigslist, Ebay, or at a Consignment store.
