Raising A Family

National Fire Prevention Month

October is fire prevention month. Here are a few things to keep your home and family safe.

  • Check the batteries in your smoke detectors and make sure they are still working properly. Did you know it’s recommended that you have one in every bedroom and at least one in the open area on each floor of your home?
  • Purchase a fire extinguisher and know how to use it.
  • Plan a route of escape and practice it with your family.
  • Have a designated meeting place for your family and make sure everyone knows where it is.
  • Teach your kids about fire safety and make sure they know what do in the event of a fire.
  • Post the numbers to the local fire department as well as the police.

Take some time to prepare. In the event of an emergency you’ll be glad you did.
